The most recent NatWest British Franchise Association (bfa) Survey of UK franchising showed that franchising performed significantly better than the overall economy over the last five years, and that seven out of 10 franchises acquired over the previous two years were resales.
The most recent Minster Cleaning Services franchisees have joined through the purchase of established branches and all have made significant positive impacts on the businesses they bought.
Minster managing director Mike Parker says that buying an existing business has many advantages including brand recognition, cash flow, customers and staff from day one: “A resale can show you actual performance figures and how the business may perform in varying market conditions. Our average annual branch turnover is now £800,000 and turnover for the group is £33million. All our franchisees can build large, valuable businesses and many have achieved annual sales of over £1million. On average, they have been with us for 12 years and some longer-serving franchisees are planning their retirement. We currently have established franchises available for resale in Bristol, Dundee, Hertfordshire and Merseyside.”
Liverpool and Wirral is one of Minster's largest and most successful branches. Significant investment is having a positive impact on the Merseyside economy and the branch is perfectly positioned for a new owner to build on its excellent track record. It has over 200 employees and an annual turnover of £1.5million. It has benefited from stability in the workforce and has built strong relationships with around 250 clients including nearly forty NHS practices.
Bristol is ranked as one of England’s top five growth centres* and is creating 10 times as many businesses per head as the rest of the UK**. The improving economy has seen many new start-ups in aerospace and financial services as well as the high-tech, media and tourism sectors. The Bristol branch was established in 1993 and has been under the present ownership since 2003.
Minster's Hertfordshire branch was established in 1997 and benefits from a very healthy local business economy. Turnover has grown steadily to over £600,000. The company has over 100 regular clients and a staff of approximately 80, many of whom are part-time. Covering a large and densely populated area, the branch has huge expansion potential.
Dundee has established a growing reputation as a city of knowledge, innovation and culture. £1billion is currently being invested in the Waterfront project, which will generate up to 9,000 jobs. The Fife branch was established in 1997 and offers almost unlimited potential for growth.
Minster Cleaning Services was established in 1982 and has been a bfa Full Member since 1992. As the country’s biggest and one of the most successful commercial cleaning franchises, it offers prospective franchisees with people-management skills a safe and secure future, whether they buy an established branch or choose a new area.
The established franchises are available for resale at a fee of £10,000 plus vat in addition to the purchase price of the business.
New franchise opportunities include Cambridge, Doncaster, Durham, Leicester, London, Middlesex, Guildford, Peterborough and Swansea. Initial start-up cost is £28,225 plus vat which covers licence, training, computer software and hardware, stationery, machinery, equipment and materials. In addition, between £40,000 and £60,000 working capital will be needed – finance is available from leading banks subject to status.
